Child Development Assessment for Ages 1-4

Development and Milestones Assessment for 1- to 4-year-olds

Our Child Development Assessment is designed to provide a detailed view of your child’s development. This assessment helps identify any areas where a child might need support and ensures they are on track to reach their full potential. Our thorough assessment includes a detailed evaluation of the child’s history, followed by a developmental assessment that provides insights into a child’s cognitive, motor, social, and emotional abilities of key areas and a sensory profile evaluation.

Firstly, what is Developmental Delay?

It’s important to note that every child develops at their own pace, and one red flag alone might not indicate a serious problem. However, if several of these red flags are noticed, or if there is a strong concern about a child’s development, it’s advisable to seek further support and guidance. Being aware of the expected child development stages can help parents and professionals better identify when a child may need additional attention.

Some examples of Developmental Delay are:

  • Your child is not walking by 15 months
  • Your child doesn’t understand simple instructions
  • Your child does not speak 50 words by 24 months
  • Your child’s speech is difficult to understand
  • Your child doesn’t walk heel-toe within a few months of walking
  • Your child is making poor eye contact
  • Your child frequently falls or has difficulty with stairs
  • Your child drools persistently or speaks unclearly
  • Your child doesn’t show interest in other children

Key Features of Our Program:

In-Depth Assessments:

Our journey with your child and family begins with a detailed and thorough
assessment to understand your child’s unique developmental profile. Considering all aspects of your child’s health,
wellbeing and development.

1- Developmental Assessment

  • Cognitive Development:
    • Assessing a child’s ability to think, learn and solve problems
  • Motor Skills Development:
    • Fine Motor Skills: Involves the use of small muscles, particularly in the hands and fingers, to perform tasks such as writing, buttoning, or using scissors.
    • Gross Motor Skills: Involves the use of small muscles, particularly in the hands and fingers, to perform tasks such as writing, buttoning, or using scissors.
  • Communication and Language Development:
    • Evaluating a child’s ability to understand language (receptive skills) and express themselves (expressive skills).
    • This assessment includes both verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Social and Emotional Development:
    • Understanding how a child interacts with others and manages their emotions.
    • Observations include sharing, taking turns, showing empathy, and forming relationships with peers and adults.
  • Adaptive Skills Development:
    • Assessing how well a child can perform daily living activities such as dressing, eating, and using the bathroom independently.

2- Sensory Profile Assessment
A sensory profile assessment helps understand how a child responds to sensory experiences and stimuli in their environment, which can significantly affect their daily activities and interactions. This assessment includes:

    • Sensory Processing Evaluation:
      • Understanding the child’s responses to sensory input across various sensory systems: visual, auditory, tactile, proprioceptive (body awareness), vestibular (balance and movement), and taste/smell.
      • Identifying over-responsiveness, under-responsiveness, or sensory-seeking behaviors that might impact a child’s daily functioning.
    • Integration and Modulation of Sensory Input:
      • Assessing how well the child can integrate sensory input to perform tasks smoothly and efficiently.
      • Evaluation of the child’s ability to modulate sensory input, which is crucial for maintaining a state of arousal and focus appropriate to the task.
    • Impact on Daily Activities and Social Interactions:
      • Observing how sensory processing issues might affect the child’s ability to engage in daily activities such as playing, learning, and interacting with others.
      • Providing strategies and recommendations to help manage sensory sensitivities and improve participation in daily routines.

Personalized Report and Recommendations Plans: Based on the comprehensive assessment, we develop a personalized intervention plan tailored to your child’s unique needs. Based on the findings from the assessment, the plan may include activities and therapies to support development, nutrition and diet support, supplements, routine planning and adjustments and parenting support.
